What a podcast transcript is good for
A transcript turns one recording into several pieces of content. Listeners who prefer to read, or who are deaf or hard of hearing, can follow the episode. Search engines can read what was said, which a plain audio file does not give them. And you get raw material for show notes, newsletter issues, social posts and quotes without listening back to the whole episode.
- Show notes and episode summaries
- Chapter markers from the timestamps
- A blog post or article per episode
- Captions for the video version on YouTube
- Quotes for social media, checked against the audio
Getting clean host and guest labels
Speaker labels work best when the engine knows how many voices to expect, so set the number of speakers before you start. Two people on separate microphones give the cleanest result; cross-talk and laughing over each other are where labels mix up.
The transcript says Speaker A, Speaker B and so on. Download Word or TXT and replace them with the host and guest names in one find-and-replace. A quick introduction at the start of the episode makes it obvious who is who.
From transcript to show notes and chapters
Every sentence carries the time it starts in the episode, which makes chapters easy: skim the transcript, note where each topic begins, and copy those times into your show notes or your hosting platform. For a summary, paste the TXT into an AI assistant and ask for a short description, key points and chapter titles with timestamps, then check them against the transcript.
For podcast apps that support transcripts, the SRT or VTT download is the format to use. Apps that follow the Podcasting 2.0 standard read a transcript file linked in your RSS feed.
Intros, music and long episodes
Theme music and ads do not break the transcript, but an episode that opens with a long music intro can confuse automatic language detection. If that happens, pick the language yourself before uploading. Episodes can run up to 10 hours per file, so long-form interviews and live recordings do not need to be split.
What podcast transcription costs
Episodes up to 30 minutes are free in full, 3 a day, without an account. A longer episode shows its first 10 minutes free. After that, minutes come in one-time packs: 3 hours for $6.99, 15 hours for $19.99 or 50 hours for $49.99, about $1 per hour of audio at the largest pack. There is no subscription, and unused minutes never expire, which suits a show that publishes weekly or takes breaks between seasons.
| Show | Audio per month | Pack that fits |
|---|---|---|
| Weekly, 45-minute episodes | About 3 hours | 3 hours, $6.99 |
| Twice a week, 1 hour | About 9 hours | 15 hours, $19.99 |
| Daily, 1 hour | About 30 hours | 50 hours, $49.99 |
Frequently asked questions
How do I transcribe a podcast for free?
Upload the episode file above. Episodes up to 30 minutes get the full transcript free, 3 a day, without an account. Longer episodes show their first 10 minutes free.
Can I transcribe a podcast from a link?
No. Upload the episode file. Podcasters can export it from their editor or download it from their hosting platform.
Will it label the host and the guests?
Yes. Each sentence gets a speaker label. Set the number of speakers before you start for cleaner labels, then rename Speaker A and B in the Word or TXT file.
How long does a one-hour episode take?
Usually a few minutes. You can close the tab if you are signed in; we email you when it is ready.
Which format should I use for podcast apps?
SRT or VTT. Both carry timestamps, and apps that support transcripts can read them.
Can I transcribe a video podcast?
Yes. Upload the MP4 or MOV. Only the audio is used, and you can download SRT captions for the YouTube version.
Does it work for podcasts in other languages?
Yes, more than 90 languages, detected automatically. The transcript is in the language spoken; there is no translation.
How accurate is it for podcasts?
On clear studio audio most words come out right. Names, brands and jargon are where mistakes happen, so check those before you publish.
